FX has unveiled the release date for the highly anticipated ten-episode adaptation of James Clavellโ€™s renowned novel set in feudal Japan, “Shogun.” The series is set to debut on February 27th, streaming exclusively on Hulu and FX.

Starring Hiroyuki Sanada, Cosmo Jarvis, and Anna Sawai, this epic saga delves into the clash of two ambitious men from different worlds alongside a mysterious female samurai.

Penned by Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo, the narrative unfolds against the backdrop of a defining century in 1600, at the dawn of an internal war. Hiroyuki Sanada takes on the role of Lord Yoshi Toranaga, a brilliant strategist and formidable daimyo isolated by adversaries within the Council of Regents at Osaka Castle, despite his numerical superiority.

The storyline takes an intriguing turn when a mysterious European ship gets stranded in a nearby fishing village. The ship’s English captain, John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis), carries secrets that could alter Toranaga’s power balance and potentially dismantle the dreadful influence of Jesuit priests and Portuguese merchants, who are also Blackthorne’s adversaries.

The fate of Toranaga and Blackthorne becomes inseparably entwined with the enigmatic Mariko, a Christian noblewoman, and interpreter Toda Mariko (Anna Sawai), descended from a dishonored lineage. As Mariko navigates serving her master in this precarious political environment, she finds herself reconciling her newfound friendship with Blackthorne, her unwavering devotion to the faith that saved her, and her duty to her late father.

The book was previously adapted into a famous 1980 miniseries starring Richard Chamberlain, Toshiro Mifune, and Yoko Shimada in pivotal roles. Alongside the premiere date announcement for the new “Shogun,” which portrays Sanada in a striking Samurai attire, a dazzling new poster highlighting Sanada’s portrayal has been released, promising a narrative that unfolds from both Western and Japanese perspectives.
