The Harry Potter series is becoming official. HBO Max has confirmed rumors with the release of a first-look trailer, following a name change announcement.
The Harry Potter series has been officially announced. HBO Max has revealed an unprecedented 10-year plan to remake the Wizarding World.
The upcoming Harry Potter series from HBO Max brings back three iconic elements from the original movies in its announcement trailer. J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World series, which began with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in 1997, has spawned eight main films, three spinoff films, and a stage play. The brand has generated over $13.4 billion in revenue since its inception and is now expanding further with a production that focuses on the original series.
In fact, there has been talk of such a series for years. David Zaslav, who took over the leadership of Warner Bros. Discovery, a new conglomerate formed after the merger of Warner Bros. and Discovery Inc., has long expressed a desire to develop new series for Wizarding World, one of the most profitable brands. The project, which was first announced in early 2021, became even more certain with news from Bloomberg in recent days. Now, the project has been officially confirmed by HBO Max.
The Harry Potter series will be a faithful adaptation of the books.
Each season of the series will adapt one of Rowling’s seven novels, with the author serving as executive producer. The Harry Potter series will have a completely new cast and is being billed as a “ten-year commitment” for the company, surprisingly.
HBO Max has released first-look footage and trailers for many of its upcoming projects for its digital platform, now known as Max. During this time, a short video was also released to announce the Harry Potter series officially. The new announcement trailer brings back three iconic elements from the original films.
HBO Max, which says the series will be a “faithful adaptation” of the books, is reusing John Williams’ Harry Potter film series theme music, the iconic logo, and the silhouette of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. You can watch the released video below.
For now, it is unknown which actors will be playing the lead roles in the series, whether any returning actors from the original films will be included, or whether the classic items from the films will be used verbatim.
However, it can be said that Warner Bros. Discovery has definitively returned to the original series by putting the Fantastic Beasts series on hold, at least for the time being.
