Russell Crowe is gearing up to haunt the screens once again, this time with his latest venture into horror cinema, “The Exorcism.”
Following his role in “The Popeโs Exorcist,” where he portrayed Father Gabriele Amorth, Crowe is set to delve into the realm of exorcism once more. In “The Popeโs Exorcist,” Crowe depicted a case undertaken by the Vatican’s chief exorcist, unraveling hidden secrets between the church and demons.
Adapted from Father Gabriele Amorth’s book “An Exorcist Tells His Story,” which recounts events from 1990, “The Popeโs Exorcist” generated considerable anticipation upon the announcement of Crowe’s leading role. Despite facing turbulent production challenges starting in 2020 and eventually commencing filming in 2022, the movie managed to garner $77 million worldwide at the box office, receiving mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike.
Moreover, it’s known that a sequel to the controversial film, criticized by the International Association of Exorcists, is in the works, with Russell Crowe expected to reprise his role as Gabriele Amorth.
Russell Crowe continues his journey into horror cinema with “The Exorcism”. Renowned for his Oscar-winning performance in “Gladiator” and roles in acclaimed films like “A Beautiful Mind” and “L.A. Confidential,” Russell Crowe is set to continue his recent foray into horror with “The Exorcism.”
Initially known as the “Georgetown Project,” the film underwent a name change after Vertical acquired the rights from Miramax. Directed by Joshua John Miller and penned by Miller alongside M.A. Fortin, known for their work on projects like “Queenn of the South” and “Final Girls,” “The Exorcism” centers around the character Anthony Miller, portrayed by Crowe. The story follows Miller as he realizes his life takes a terrifying turn while filming a horror movie, prompting him to question whether his daughter is witnessing his return to old vices or something more sinister.
