Greta Gerwig’s highly anticipated Netflix adaptation of the fantasy epic, “Chronicles of Narnia” is slated to begin production in August 2024.

The production date for Greta Gerwig’s eagerly awaited fantasy adaptation, “Chronicles of Narnia” is now solidified. Following her success with “Barbie” at the box office last year, the renowned director is now gearing up to transport audiences into C.S. Lewis’s magical realm.

The internationally renowned fantasy series by Northern Irish author and academic, C.S. Lewis, is gearing up to captivate audiences once again. Comprising 7 books and originally titled “TChronicles of Narnia” the series has been translated into over 40 languages, reaching millions of readers worldwide.

The rights for adapting the work, previously brought to the silver screen through three books of the series, have been with Netflix since 2018. The digital streaming platform secured the adaptation rights of the popular series by reaching an agreement with The C.S. Lewis Company. As a result, Greta Gerwig, who made waves last summer with the Margot Robbie-starring “Barbie” film, was appointed to helm one of Netflix’s most trusted fantasy projects, “Chronicles of Narnia”

While production for the film set to commence in 2024 is slowly taking shape, the production schedule is gradually becoming clearer.

“Greta Gerwigโ€™s ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ Film to be Shot in the United Kingdom” Having garnered $1.4 billion at the box office with “Barbie,” preceded by “Lady Bird” (2017) and “Little Women” (2019), Greta Gerwig has already proven herself. Now, she’s rolling up her sleeves for C.S. Lewis’s cult series. According to the latest information, the production for the first film will kick off in the United Kingdom in August 2024.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4 about the adaptation, Gerwig expressed:

“Iโ€™m slightly in the place of terror because I really do have such reverence for Narnia. I loved Narnia so much as a child. As an adult, I see Lewis as a thinker and a writer. Iโ€™m intimidated by doing this. Itโ€™s something that feels like a worthy thing to be intimidated by. I also have to say, as a non-British person, I feel a particular sense of wanting to do it correctly because, you know, itโ€™s like when Americans do Shakespeare, thereโ€™s a slight feeling of reverence and as if maybe we should, you know, treat it with extra care. It is not our countrymen.”

Gerwig has often expressed in previous statements that this project has intimidated her considerably.

With filming set to commence in August 2024, lasting approximately 7 months, and production expected to conclude in March 2025. The production will then undergo an extensive post-production process, with the best-case scenario for the release date being late 2025 or 2026.

As for the cast of the film, the names are currently unknown.
