Quentin Tarantino’s Next Venture

Renowned filmmaker Quentin Tarantino is gearing up for his latest project, “The Movie Critic,” and Paul Schrader has shared intriguing updates about this upcoming film.

Storyline and Themes

Following his monumental success with “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood,” Tarantino is set to delve into “The Movie Critic.” The movie will revolve around the narrative of a film critic employed at an adult magazine in the late 1970s. As the supposed final opus of one of the most talked-about directors of our time, “The Movie Critic” is poised to be a cinematic event, regardless of one’s stance on the filmmaker.

Continuation from ‘Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood’

What’s particularly intriguing is that this new film by Quentin Tarantino will serve as a direct extension of his previous work, “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood.” While the latter intricately reconstructed the (more or less faithful) ending of the carefree ’60s era, “The Movie Critic” will play with the codes and aesthetics of 1970s cinema. Paul Schrader, the esteemed filmmaker and screenwriter behind classics like “Taxi Driver” and “Affliction,” confirmed this and shed light on the film:

“Quentin will incorporate excerpts from 1970s films and also create his own renditions of movies from that era. He asked for my permission to shoot the ending of ‘Rolling Thunder,’ directed by John Flynn, as I originally wrote it in the screenplay before it was completely rewritten and softened.”

Tarantino’s Signature Approach

Similar to his approach in “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood” (and throughout his career on various levels), Tarantino will once again play with existing cinematic material to craft a unique and deeply personal film. To jog memories, “Rolling Thunder” (‘Légitime violence’ in French) released in 1977, starring William Devane, Tommy Lee Jones, and Linda Haynes, recounting the vengeance of a US Army veteran against a group of robbers. Paul Schrader penned the film’s screenplay.

Excitement is mounting as fans anticipate how Tarantino will weave his signature style into the fabric of ’70s cinema in “The Movie Critic,” promising an unparalleled viewing experience.

Stay tuned for more updates on this highly anticipated cinematic journey from the visionary Quentin Tarantino.
