Renowned Korean filmmaker Kim Jee-woon is set to helm the cinematic adaptation of ‘The Hole,’ a novel written by fellow Korean author Hye-Young Pyun. The novel, currently unpublished in our country, promises a gripping narrative ripe for the silver screen.

The film will be a collaborative effort between Sam Esmail’s Esmail Corp, Kimberly Steward’s K Period Media, and Kim’s own Anthology Studios. Shot in both English and Korean, the screenplay is penned by Christopher Chen, known for his work on ‘The Accidental Getaway Driver.’

‘The Hole’ delves into the story of Ogi, who awakens from a coma following a tragic car accident that claimed his wife’s life, leaving him paralyzed and severely disfigured. Cared for by his mother-in-law, a grieving widow mourning her only daughter, Ogi finds himself confined to his bed, his world shrinking to the confines of his room and memories of his troubled relationship with his wife. However, amidst his confinement, he uncovers unsettling truths about his wife and the haunting legacy she left behind.

Kim Jee-woon, acclaimed for his cinematic prowess, is known for films like ‘The Age of Shadows’ and ‘I Saw the Devil.’ While audiences in Spain await the release of his latest film, ‘Geomijip (Cobweb),’ which premiered at the Sitges Film Festival, his most recent work available in the country is the Apple TV+ series ‘Dr. Brain,’ for which he directed all six episodes.

With Kim Jee-woon at the helm and a compelling narrative at its core, ‘The Hole’ adaptation promises to captivate audiences with its blend of suspense, drama, and psychological depth. Stay tuned for updates on this eagerly anticipated cinematic endeavor.
