The highly anticipated sequel to “The Platform” is on the horizon, as Netflix gears up to unveil its Spanish-produced sci-fi thriller.
Sneak Peek of “The Platform 2” Released
Netflix has teased viewers with new visuals from the upcoming sequel, promising that the continuation of the gripping saga will be “coming soon.”
The original “The Platform” made waves in 2019 with its dystopian elements and suspenseful narrative. The Spanish-language film, known as “El hoyo,” exposed the injustices among the levels of a platform filled with food and drink, serving as a hunger-focused social experiment.
Directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia and written by David Desola and Pedro Rivero, the film depicted the endless nightmare faced by those trapped in the lower levels.
Returning Characters in “The Platform 2”
Fans of the 2019 film, which debuted on Netflix in 2020, have long awaited news of the sequel announced in 2023. Netflix unveiled the impending sequel with two exclusive stills.
Netflix’s teaser for “The Platform 2” reads: “A mysterious figure has established a new rule in the Platform. But can justice truly be served in hell? And if so, who will enforce it? Directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, starring Milena Smit and Hovik Keuchkerian.”
In the released images, prisoners are seen under a disturbing red-filtered light. One frame features Milena Smit, known for her role in “The Snow Girl,” portraying an unnamed character sitting on a bed, resigned to her fate.
In another image, Hovik Keuchkerian, recognized for his roles in “Assassin’s Creed” and “Un amor,” embodies a mysterious character wrapped in a blanket, gazing upwards.
While details about the plot of the new Platform film are being kept under wraps, fans are hopeful for the upcoming installment.
Director’s Vision for the Sequel
Director Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia expressed his excitement for the production, stating, “We are thrilled to expand the Platform universe with surprises, obstacles, new characters, and old friends.” He envisions the second installment as an exhilarating physical journey into the darkness.
Gaztelu-Urrutia hinted that some characters from the first film would reprise their roles in the sequel, although the specific cast members are yet to be confirmed.
A release date for “The Platform 2” has not been announced, but it’s expected to hit screens by next summer at the latest.
